Working Tax Credit and Child tax credit

Can you apply for working tax credit, child tax credit and maternity grant the £500 if you and your partner have a job and you’re on maternity leave? As I saw for the working tax credit you just have to do at least 30h a week..

I think they are phasing out and moving all to universal credit. I don't think new applications are being accepted. But absolutely happy to be told I'm wrong!

You can no longer make a new claim for tax credits (haven’t been able to for quite a few years) You’d be making a claim for universal credit and seeing if your wages wipe out the amount you’d get :)

I’ve just received the maternity grant so definitely do that at least

Tax credits can no longer be applied for, you would need to apply for Universal Credit and receive a statement of at least £1 to be able to use your award to then apply for the Maternity Grant. If your partners wages plus your wages zero your claim you’d have to wait until you’re on maternity and your pay drops and see if you get more than £0 then. If you still have a zero award then you may need to wait until baby is added to see if you’d qualify and you have up to 6 months after baby is born to apply. I would recommend applying and sending off your form for the maternity grant the day you get a statement from UC that’s over £0 as when they look at it they take the award from your most recent statement so unless you will consistently get over £0 sometimes you have to time it right because they may take a while to process it

It really depends on each person. You are best to speak to someone, you could look on entitledto.com or speak to citizens advice. If you and your partner work and receive no benefits, then no you aren’t eligible for the maternity grant.

Does the maternity grant need to be applied for by post only? Or can you do it online?

@Carla post, have to print off the form x
