EMP!

Has anyone successfully negotiated a better maternity leave package? I’m grateful that there is EMP available (6 weeks at 90%, further 24 weeks topped up to 50%) but I still feel this could be better. I’m 8 years with the company in senior management and very close to the financial status which is very good. It’s a relatively small company where you can see your personal impact and I’m told I’m very valued and do see that too. What would you do? Be grateful as the alternate of SMP is so woeful or make an attempt to fight for your worth?

That's a decent package tbh! I'd do some research on what the usual packages are in your industry. I got a really good one (9 months full pay as I'd been there 5+ years) but outside of the big tech companies I know that's pretty unusual in my industry. It was part of the reason I stayed so long! Policies take ages to change so I don't think they'd make a change seeing as they're already going above and beyond. I could see it if they just offered SMP but probably not in this situation. A colleague of mine managed to get a policy change but because the entitlement was so different between two of our offices. France is weirdly bad for maternity pay! Even then it took a year to sort.

Our company went from paying 6 weeks at 90% and the rest SMP to 10 weeks at full pay and the rest SMP pretty quickly when asked what benefits they could include to be employer of choice but we are a privately owned small to medium business.

I’m literally getting 90% for 14 weeks and that’s it…. Been with my company 6 years… I was really disappointed 😞
