Maternity pay- how to qualify

If starting a new job. How long do you have to be employed before you’re entitled to gov maternity pay please?

You need to be continuously employed for 26 weeks before the qualifying week. That is 15 weeks before baby is due.

I think it works out that you basically have to have been employed since before your pregnancy begins. If this isn't the case then you can claim maternity allowance instead which pays you for 9 months after you have your baby x

I thought the rules changed so your were entitled from the first day of employment but not quite sure. The gov website is pretty good for info

As above, so basically after first period after you start new job

You have to be employed 6 months before you go on maternity leave

You need to be working for the company one week before you fall pregnant. I got lucky with my job I started and then exactly a week later fell pregnant and qualified

You can get mat allowance instead which is the same amount and is based on how long you've paid national insurance x

I wasn’t employed long enough by my current job when I found out I was pregnant so I had to apply for maternity allowance instead. I think it’s the same amount, O just didn’t get the three months enhanced pay.
