Why is it so expensive to live?!

After rent and all of our other bills we barely have any money left over. We haven’t been able to save any money and I need us to have at least 5,000 put away for emergencies. What is something you do for another income?

Why do you need 5k? Seems like a lot. I probably feel uncomfortable if I have under 2k for emergencies.

@Ella idk about OP but personally for my family, we have a goal to have 3 months of expenses saved up. We had it saved, then my husband needed open heart surgery and was out of work. I'm I'm a SAHM. Even with the savings we had to rely on extra support to keep afloat due to his recovery time. We've been struggling to save that amount back up and just had to dip into it again because he needed a second surgery recently (which was much more minor and has a better recovery time.) Every family has different saving needs.

I make a bit of pocket money through tiktok shop samples. If I don't make enough in commission from a product, I usually resell it on FB marketplace so it still generates income. I also occasionally get paid directly from a brand to promote a specific product (usually $50ish per video) but I do have a fairly significant following. I'm a stay-at-home mom and it's few and far between, so it's money we don't take into account in terms of our total finances. I do typically spend it on stuff for my daughter though so it's still positively impacting us. Like it's something I would've bought anyway but it didn't have to come from our joint account/ savings.

We also have a high yield savings account above 4% interest, which helped more obviously when we had more in it. But we had about $10k in there for a while which was gaining nice passive income at that 4%+ rate. It's through so-fi.

@Allison what high yield savings do you use?

@Allison oh my lord I'd need like 12-15k just for emergency.

@Allison I hope your husband is doing well now ❤️

@Elizabeth we use So-fi!

@Ella he's healing well! Thank you :)

@Ella 5k seems like nothing but that’s just in case one our cars breaks down or honestly anything. Things come up, you never know.
