Kaiser insurance or other options

Hi, I have Kaiser permanente insurance. I am planning for a baby soon. How do you like it with pregnancy, delivery and after care? How do they take care of high risk pregnancy? I am concerned to go with them because the same ob gyn who sees me during pregnancy won’t be in delivery room.

I delivered my baby at Kaiser. I never had a baby before so I have nothing to compare it to but I felt it went great and was well taken care of. I was high risk at 48 years old (IVF with donor eggs) so I had an OBGYN and MFM doctor the whole pregnancy. Because of placenta previa, I had to have a scheduled C-section at 36 weeks. About 4 weeks before the C-section, I went every week for non-stress tests and had lots of extra ultra sounds. I honestly didn’t care who was delivering the baby, there were so many of them in there I couldn’t even tell you what they were there for. My baby went to the NICU but for only 23 hours. I felt completely cared for, sometimes I was like wow, I am over-taken care of, lol.

Good to know they take care well @Denise did they keep you on high risk since it’s IVF? Or they took any tests to figure that out? Sorry I don’t know alot of things

Yes, because of my age (48) and IVF, I was considered high-risk the whole time from the beginning. Which really meant I saw both the OBGYN and the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) often. Which I thought was wonderful. I saw at least one of them monthly, sometimes more. And then last 4 weeks, I went there weekly. I don’t know what it would be like if I wasn’t high risk so I don’t know what would have been different.

I also delivered with Kaiser and had a great experience. I wasn't high risk but I was 35 so I had extra testing along the way since I was considered "geriatric". Yes, my usual OB wasn't my delivery doctor but I was okay with that and as it turned out I was in labor so long I saw three or four different doctors as they came on and off shift anyway, before my girl arrived. I liked all of them and barely remember the one who delivered honestly. The super sweet nurse in my face had more my attention than the lady at the end of the bed! lol. I had an option of two hospitals near me that had kaiser OBs for delivery and I just chose the hospital I liked best regardless of which my OB might be working at when I was in labor. Happy to chat more if you have specific questions I might be able to answer 🙂

I delivered at Kaiser and my experience wasn't the greatest. This was also 2020

@Elizabeth sorry for the delayed response. How often did they see you in last trimester?

@Vani What did go wrong with your experience? Is it because of covid?

@Denise Thanks alot for sharing your experience 🙂
