Insurance for baby

Hi all!! So I am still on my parents’ insurance and therefore won’t be able to put my little one on my insurance; my fiancé is transitioning to a new career so he currently doesn’t have insurance. What should I do? When do I apply for insurance for my newborn? (Due in January; located in NJ).

You can have your partner apply to nj family care and apply for your son as well! Cause they’ll both get coverage at first but if your partner gets better insurance in the future they’ll both be able to switch over to the better insurance (or can stay on it)

but you need your child’s social security number & birth certificate before insurance will do anything for you !!

Initially like at birth & for I believe 2-3 months after birth baby gets to be under YOUR insurance, like even if normally he won’t get added to the policy there’s a caveat to make sure everyone’s health care needs are met while waiting on the child’s social security number to come thru

Can u get Medicaid for them? You’ll definitely want something because 24 hour screening, 2 week checkup, any weight checks, circumcision, vaccines, etc etc!! They have so many things in the first month

Apply for Medicaid secondary for yourself before birth. Then baby will be covered under you until they can get their own id number. Most plans children pregnancy related services aren’t covered by their parents plans so you’ll typically see where people apply for the Medicaid coverage for the pregnancy related time. Medicaid offers pregnancy related specific care for pregnancy, baby and postpartum care.
