Childcare help
Hey so, I took extended maternity and due back 7th Jan! My little girl is 1 on the 6th December. I’m getting no maternity pay, but applied for universal credit so I am getting that.
I’m guessing my UC will probably stop when I go back to work?
I’m planning on sending her to a childminder for 2 days a week, when I apply for the 15 hours funding it says I’m not eligible due to UC? Do I have to close my UC account? I would rather have the 15 hours funding then money into the pot or whatever it is? I’m just so confused about what I have to do?
Me and my partner will both be working and I’m officially off maternity on the 19th November and working one day a week and the rest of the days as holiday..
Can anyone shed any light on what to do? It gives me huge anxiety when I don’t understand things and don’t know what’s happening. Thankyou

@Chiara ohhhh that makes so much sense already! I thought it was one or the other!! I won’t get a lot from UC anyway but any top up would be great as I’ve cut my hours! No I did have a nursery place but last minute decided to go view with a childminder! I just get really stressed if things aren’t in place or I don’t have a plan if that makes sense! I’m seeing the childminder this week and hopefully putting her name down to start 7th Jan! X
Oh I'm glad that's cleared things up a little for you! I get that, I get so stressed about these things too. It's such a minefield! If you don't think you'll get much from UC, you may be worth doing tax free childcare instead

It's probably cause your little one isn't starting childcare within 31days. You can get both 15hrs free and UC, its not one or the other. Maybe just put a note in your journal to ask what's going on? Or even ask you childminder. Have you registered with your childminder officially yet? That could be another contributing factorq
