Are you reading books and preparing?

Last week I had an unpleasant conversation with a family member who went on and on about the books I need to start reading "you don't have much time!". It made me feel really bad about myself and as if I'm failing at this already. I went through IVF to get pregnant and I prepared a lot for it. Since getting a positive test, I've not done the same for pregnancy. I've been really anxious and stressing towards the 12 week mark and couldn't get myself to read about it. I'll start when I'm ready but 1. Is it weird? I'm usually super prepared for things and 2. What are you reading? I guess this is the first experience of mom guilt that people will put me through!

I haven’t really read anything to be fair 🙈

@Michaela you're making me feel better 😅

Haven’t picked up a single book😂 I’m honestly finding Google to be more helpful as I can find what I need to know without trawling through an entire book

I am slowly reading “what to expect when you’re expecting”. It gives info about each week and what to expect in pregnancy and some info about weight, food, exercises etc… very easy to read ! I don’t want to read to much as I will feel overwhelmed. But I don’t feel in a rush yet to prepare for birth and newborn 😁

i don’t think there’s a single book that actually prepares you for having a baby. we did an antenatal course and other than learning about safe sleep the rest was useless, you’ll figure things out as time goes on. i’d never even held a baby before having my first and thought i could never manage, but she’s almost 3 now and so far nothings been too hard to handle😅

I didn’t read anything until I was about 30 weeks! I do really recommend ‘The positive birth book’ it has good tips for whatever kind of birth you want and it focuses more on you and advocating for yourself etc. it’s simple and easy to ready without being too medicalised. post baby I liked ‘my baby week by week’ I was tired and the thought of reading an entire book was a no no but a chapter a week I could manage and kinda explains what your baby might be doing and experiencing in the first months. Again I just found it put my mind at ease a bit with ‘ah that’s who he might have been up ALL night’ it not because he is sick or I’m terrible etc.

I haven’t read a single book 🤣 I have a couple of my list but there’s so many out there that I get a bit overwhelmed. Google is my best friend 😬

I don’t plan to read any books before baby is here, if you’re interested in what is happening each week and what the symptoms mean etc, I recommend the app Ovia. It’s really easy to digest and I’ve found it really informative ❤️ the rest I’m getting from google and mum friends 🤣

Thanks everyone, you're making me feel a lot better! I found a couple of podcasts that I'll try, they seem to work better than books for me. And for the rest, I think everyone around us will always have an opinion about what we should be doing...I need to learn to ignore them.
