WFH with toddler

I’ve been trialling a 4 day work week since returning to work and the 6 month trial period is up in a couple of weeks. I love having Fridays off with my daughter but could do with the extra money (and am planning on trying for another baby soon, so am thinking about the mat pay!). Fridays are usually very quiet and I used to use it more as an admin day. Given I’d be hoping to go on mat leave in the next year, I was wondering whether I could WFH with my daughter (who is 19 months) or whether this is a stupid idea?! Has anyone done this and is it worth it or just completely stressful?

Ah it’s okay for an hour or two if they’re napping or can watch a bit of TV but otherwise my lg just wants to “help” me work 😅 I have my mum round on my wfh day, but suppose it’s completely down to how your lo is!

Your work may not allow that as you are working and they may say WFH is not a substitute for daycare. Also, I couldn't do this as too distracting!

I wfh but cannot work if I don't have help. I usually have a sitter who comes for 4-5 hours a day and I manage the rest of my hours during his nap and/or in the evenings after SO is back home. My LO will NOT let me use my phone or laptop without wanting to use it himself. So it's impossible to get any work done when he's around 🙃 But every baby is different so ull know yours best!

It’s pretty much impossible. If you think you can get away with basically only working while she’s asleep or for 5 mins here & there then it might be okay but you won’t really get much done - so depends what you think you can get away with!

I could never make it work, my boy is really busy so wouldn’t last a full day entertaining himself even if I set up activities

I definitely couldn't work and look after my 18m. And I know she will only get even more active as she's going into toddler stage! My LO was off sick from nursery for 2 days. I could barely get anything done. She was climbing all over me and wanted me to play. I was exhausted by the end of that and I hoped she was well enough to go back on Weds. Luckily she was and I just brought her in on shorter hours but I sighed heavy relief when I dropped her off! 😅
