Pre-eclampsia

So after weeks of being in and out of hospital with high blood pressure, I have finally been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia šŸ˜¢ I am obviously upset and frustrated and I know there is nothing I can do. Just wanted to hear what other peoples experience of pre-eclampsia has beenā€¦ When did you get diagnosed? When did you end up having baby and how? Induction / c section? Iā€™m 36 weeks tomorrow and they initially said they wanted to get me to 38 weeks but each day is different so I guess itā€™s just a waiting game now.

Im sorry you are going thru this, I am in the same situation but a week behind you! I can see me getting the same diagnosis shortly due to the high blood pressure! Hopefully you get to speak to someone to have a proper plan in place so you know what to expect x

@Sarah bless you, itā€™s very frustrating isnā€™t it! They kept me on the ward for 4 days testing every hour & upping my dosage of meds and stuff and they just canā€™t seem to get it to come down to a good level. Itā€™s exhausting! I had different doctors saying different things, itā€™s like it changes every day so I have no idea whatā€™s going to happen šŸ˜ I hope it doesnā€™t get worse for you & hope they can control your blood pressure soon! X

Awwww no šŸ„ŗ they have had me in every week to check at the moment which is a pain, but being kept in 4 days sounds even worse!! This is the same at our maternity unit I get asked what im in for each time and have to explain myself all over again so a bit clueless what the end result is going to be! Hopefully we both get a plan very soon and we get to meet our wee ones shortly ā¤ļø xx

I know three people this happened with! Two were actually due (one 38W and one 40W) and it was discovered at their midwife and they ended up both having cesareans. They were gonna induce but in the end it was determined c-section was safest. As babies were full term both were born healthy. Mums had to stay in hospital for a few days to be monitored before being sent home with blood pressure pills The third was discovered at 34W and she had a Caesarean at 34W. Baby is healthy but very small so in the NICU for a few weeks. But basically for all of them babies were delivered safely and they felt well taken care of and are seeing the doctors/midwives regularly to keep being monitored

@Alexandra thank you for this I appreciate it! Itā€™s crazy how common it can be but I didnā€™t know anything about it until halfway through pregnancy, itā€™s a wild ride. I do think c sections seem to be more common when it comes to this, Iā€™m trying to weigh up my options really. I never wanted a c section but with the way things are going it seems the safest & least Stressful option but I really donā€™t know. Thank you for your comment

It is mad! Literally these three people I knew all happened within the past two weeks!! I totally understand the c-section anxiety. I also am not keen on the idea BUT the friend I know who had one actually had a lovely experience in the end. Her baby was born to a lovely acoustic song she and her partner picked, breastfeeding went amazing and the staff were so good laughing with them and putting them at ease. Sheā€™s also recovering super well at home now and able to get out and about! So though it may not be your Plan A, it doesnā€™t mean you canā€™t still make it a great experience ā¤ļø

Hey Hun, yeah I had it last pregnancy & I have been in every week for monitoring since 16 weeks to catch it this time ( currently 30 weeks ) Feel free to reach out if you have any questions x

@Naomi thank you! I hope it goes better for you this time! Fingers crossed šŸ¤žšŸ¼ Do you mind me asking how you gave birth last time & how far along you were? X

@Leanne my protein is already starting to creep up, so I have a feeling itā€™s on its way. I was induced at 38 weeks like you, but I guess the advantage because of the high blood pressure it tends to work quite fast. Well for the first child anyways, it was about 7 hours from start to finish. Other than the obvious pain, it was actually a smooth delivery x

@Naomi thatā€™s so reassuring thank you! Iā€™ve not heard many stories of inductions that have not ended in a c section so hopefully mine goes smoothly too! At least you know what to expect this time & it can be monitored, itā€™s hard work though isnā€™t it, best of luck to you x

Ohh I know someone who had the induction gel and went on to have a vaginal birth :) though slightly different circumstances as she didnā€™t have pre-eclampsia, but still! Our midwife course leader for our antenatal classes also said she began the induction process (had the balloon I believe) and then that worked and she didnā€™t need the drip and went on to have a vaginal delivery

@Leanne yes, same tbf but itā€™s possible! I had the balloon if that helps your decision too. And sorry on reflection, they put that in around 5pm. I went into active labour at 12Am and she was born 7am on the dot. And my blood pressure etc was through the rough, I had pretty high pre clampsia at that point. I went in for a check up & they didnā€™t let me out. But all went smooth & this time they are on me like a hawk, which actually is more comforting. I get to hear the baby each week & see the baby every month. And everything has been fine so far - you got this šŸ™‚šŸ™ŒšŸ½

@Naomi thank you thatā€™s really helpful šŸ˜Š They are struggling to get my blood pressure to come down even with all the tablets and increasing my dosage, so Iā€™ve got a feeling it wonā€™t be long now until they start talking about induction! Iā€™m 36 weeks today, but got my next check up on Friday so we will see how that goes! Itā€™s a lovely feeling hearing your baby isnā€™t it, knowing that theyā€™re doing well. Thatā€™s my main concern that my body is hurting her but she is fine thankfully šŸ„¹ā¤ļø

@Leanne what meds are you on ? Did they put you on blood thinners & aspirin too ? Yeahhhhh Im with you, but your body knows what to do, will protect as much as they can. Iā€™m suprised they are letting you carry on with high blood pressure this late in the game ! X

Labetolol and Nifedipine for the high blood pressure I was on aspirin since 12 weeks and finished taking them now as Iā€™ve reached 36 weeks! Thatā€™s what I thought, I have a feeling that if my blood pressure is high at my next check up then they may not let me leave until I deliver baby, I donā€™t know why they would keep me going unnecessarily x

@Leanne yeahhh, wouldnā€™t be suprised if they do. I was so stupid last time & didnā€™t even have my bag packed šŸ¤£ was unprepared. At least you are some what mentally prepared. Donā€™t stress, it will always work out how itā€™s meant to be šŸ«¶

Iā€™ve been told that they will book an induction or c section (my choice which) for between 38w and 39w unless BP is high or baby hasnā€™t grown on next scan

@Ella thatā€™s good to know! We had doctors telling us different things everytime they saw us because my blood pressure was so up and down. I think the general consensus is they want to get us to 38w and then Iā€™ll probably opt for an induction if given the choice. But I am worried that my blood pressure isnā€™t coming down to a good level so it may be sooner šŸ˜³ I hope all goes well for you! šŸ’–

@Leanne yep same here, Iā€™m due same date as you and at one point they even said this week would be an option if needed so had a panic weekend of buying. Now Iā€™ve got potentially nearly 3 weeks. I canā€™t decide between induction or section. My fear with induction is I donā€™t think theyā€™ll let us go home as theyā€™ll want to constantly monitor baby and BP so it could be days. Then fear it ends in section anyway if BP raises. So Iā€™m swaying to section, but all pregnancy Iā€™ve been against a section due to the recovery!

@Ella they will 100% keep you in after they start the induction with a risk of pre clampsia. And they check your blood pressure constantly. It happened relatively quick for me through !

@Naomi I thought might be the case. Was there a timeline or max BP or anything with your induction they said theyā€™d push for a section?

@Ella no there wasnā€™t, i dig ask ( beg lol ) when i was in deep in labour pains but i was to far gone & was all progressing naturally. I just had gas and air in the end!
