Ive been trying to do this and got so confused! I asked my payroll and they said they would be able to send me a monthly breakdown of what ill be paid incl smp nearer to when I leave xx
Ask your payroll. I’m not nhs but my payroll department gave me a breakdown. Mine shows my SMP is included in my wage not on top though until I drop just to SMP. Hope that makes sense x
I get enhanced pay for my late & weekend shifts etc as well which I’ve heard makes a difference to what your NHS mat pay entitlement will be as they average out your monthly earnings. My payroll and HR are not very helpful & I want to submit my forms next week, so worried and confused about it all 😭
Thank you everyone I think I’ll just have to ask my pay roll because I can’t make sense of it myself 😂 x
Maternity pay is calculated in weeks so if you work out your weekly earnings that will tell you what you will roughly get for your 8 weeks full pay then half this and that will give you an indication for your 16 weeks half pay. You get your 6 weeks at 90% too. Also is your basic salary £39,850? If you are a shift worker it will complicate it because your average weekly earnings are calculated during your qualifying weeks so I know some people try to get their weekend or night shifts in those weeks to bump up their maternity pay. I went on mat leave in 2022 and at that point my salary was £43,432. I do office hours. I asked for my mat pay in 10 equal instalments and my pay varied from around £1300 on 4 week months to £1650 on 5 week months of that helps? I’m in Scotland so pay higher income tax and I kept my pension contributions going so on your salary if you take equal instalments it might be similar to what I got (if you take the paid time off only) xx
You can ask payroll to give you a forecast over however many months you want to spread it. There's this website you can do it on too https://maternitycalculator.co.uk/nhs x
