Placenta previa + blood thinning injections

Hi all, I had my 20 week scan yesterday - very happy that the baby is perfectly healthy 🥰 and I found out it’s a boy 🩵 But…I also found out I have a low lying placenta covering the entrance to my cervix & need to have extra scans to check if it moves. If it doesn’t move I will likely have a c-section from 36 weeks. I also found out a separate issue that my risk for clots has increased and so I will need to start blood thinning injections everyday from 28 weeks. What’s worrying is both these problems contradict each other.. the placenta previa can cause excess bleeding / risk of needing blood transfusion and the blood thinners will cause me to clot less and bleed more. Really worried about this 😣 has anyone else got any of these problems or been through similar in their pregnancies before and it’s been ok?

I'm at risk of blood clots so have had to inject with blood thinners since 18 weeks. I was told to stop them as soon as I'm showing signs of labour when I'm further along so maybe it's the same for you? X

Have they booked you a consultant apt? If not, I’d ask to see one to reassure you and answer your questions. I have been told to stop my blood thinners from 37 weeks. Xx

P.s glad baby is ok and congrats on having a boy! X

@Jprc how do you find doing the injections? Yeah possibly it might be the same, the doctor didn’t say much about when they would be stopped but maybe a question I need to ask when I pick up the prescription x

@Jennifer yes I’m consultant led care as I have previous medical history. That’s helpful to know that you were told to stop from 37 weeks. Do you take tablets or have injections too?x

I had placenta previa in my last pregnancy. I had a follow up scan at 32 weeks and it had moved out of the way. Incidentally, when I told my mum, MIL and friend, all of them had had it too and theirs had all moved too. We just abstained from any sexual activity to avoid bleeding until I’d been checked at 32 weeks 😊

@Ceri not overly painful but my stomach is so so bruised :( I need to ask my midwife if I'm doing something wrong because I feel like that amount of bruising is too much!
