@Rachel that’s how I feel I’m thinking about canceling the whole thing lol
I was considering encapsulating it but my obgyn is advising against it claiming that: - there is no science backing it up that it helps - it can be actually harmful as placenta dies out as it ages by 9 mos + it is easy for placenta ti have infection if u have GBS So my doula is in favor, obgyn is against 😳
@Jessica im choosing to buy some homeopathic tinctures that apparently help with balancing your hormones post partum. Much less expensive than the placenta encapsulation, and I was just wanting to do that for the hormone regulation pp!
Do it! Helps so much with post partum- there is a reason it sells for $50-$100k there are a tons of stems cells and nutrients inside!
Every mammal on this planet eats there’s and literally gnaws off the umbilical cord with there mouths
I WON'T Recommend it! I had my placenta encapsulated and ate it for 2 of my postpartum, but it did not help me!
It's also a toxin filter. So we don't need it! And we are not animals, we can't be compared to them
Please don’t. I looked into it a lot and it really isn’t a good idea for so many reasons (mainly the hormones and toxins it contains can cause damage). People saying “well animals do it,” that’s because they’re out in the wild and they are trying to keep predators away. That’s also why they lick their babies clean, to remove the scent.
@Leah can you please DM me with this info as i literally need to make a decision before birth
My mom does placenta encapsulation, I asked her because I was also reading that it can cause risk for infection and that there’s no scientific proof behind it. I also asked my doctor to get a medical perspective, my doctor said that there is a risk of infection if the mother is already infected which they will test for no matter what, and that there is no scientific evidence behind it because they are not going to do scientific test on eating human tissue. She said that for that reason she can’t recommend it, but that she has heard many stories of people doing it and it being helpful and that there is little risk as long as you take precautions. Ultimately, she said that it is very expensive and if you’re worried about the risks, you would likely be better off not doing it. My mom said that she originally was skeptical of placenta encapsulation until she saw the positive effects it had on some of her birth clients as a Doula.
One client had already had five kids and decided to do placenta capsulation to help with energy and reported an immense increased in energy as opposed to her previous pregnancies postpartum. She had another client that had a full team of people helping her try to breast-feed with her first baby, as she was a very holistic, mother and ultimately had to switch to formula, but with her second, she tried placenta encapsulation and was able to exclusively breast-feed her baby. She told me a few other stories of what changed her mind and why she decided to begin doing Plent encapsulation and reiterated that the risk for infection comes from mothers that were already infected, which they will test for. She did also say that many parents choose not to due to the cost for me of course she would do it for free if I choose to, but it definitely depends on the person and if they’re more worried about the risks or benefits of postpartum symptoms.
I wanted to, but it was wildly expensive and there wasn’t much conclusive evidence of it helping people. Seemed pretty 50/50. And for the couple hundred dollars to do it, I didn’t want to take that bet lol
