NHS Maternity leave

I am due to return to work in February after being on maternity. My partner and I are keen to try for our second child next year and wondered if anyone knew how long you had to return to work to be entitled for full maternity pay again?

I don't think you have to return as mat leave is classed as employment. I had a friend who's done 2 back to back as first baby she sadly lost in third trimester. However I think your mat pay is based off your wages from 17-25 weeks so if you're in unpaid leave this might be affected. I went back to work pregnant with second so I will have been back 7 months then going off again

You don’t have to return you qualify immediately. However your maternity pay will still be based on what you earn in your qualifying weeks so if you return part time you will want to take this into consideration as you may then get less than this time

@Sarah @Louise thank you. I contacted HR and they wouldn’t confirm if I would get full pay. So you both think; if I return pregnant and go back to work for around 7 months, do u think I would Be entitled to full pay and not just SMP?

Yes you should get both if you got both this time as long as you don't have a break in service. Mat pay doesn't count as a break in service.

Yes you will
