I’ve been told by a few people I can claim UC when my wages drop to SMP… even if my partner works full time…. Has anyone had any experience in this or have any advice please? TIA

You can do a benefit calculator online to check if you would be eligible. Fill it out as if when you drop to smp is your current situation and it’ll advise on whether or not you would be eligible. It may be quicker to put a claim into uc now as they will calculate each month whether you will get anything so once you drop to smp hmrc will update that and uc will calculate it all accordingly. If you get atleast £1 uc and if your baby is under 6 months abd it’s your first baby you may also be eligible for the maternity grant also. Uc all depends on wages etc. so if your partner is working full time and your getting partial payment then it may mean you get a little too up or non it it depends on how much you get in total together x

Once you put in a claim to uc your first payment (if eligible) will be 5 weeks after you initially put the claim in x

I claim while on smp and my partner works full time. I don’t get very much like just over £100 a month but at least it’s something x

Update: I put a claim through and I have a meeting with them in our local office on Monday
