DNA Fragmentation testing, thoughts?

My partner and I have been TTCing naturally for 2 years and we went thought investigations with the NHS where found that my AMH was on the lower end for my age (4.3) and his sperm test came back with slow runners. Taking supplements for him ended up resolving the issue - even over correcting ! - but still no success and given IVF as our only option as they think the problem is my egg reserve. I’ve heard of DNA fragmentation testing and that results can potentially show a problem even if the sperm test is good. Thoughts?

It’s weird they would recommend ivf as the only option as that’s usually the last resort. Usually you’d start with ovulation induction first (letrozole or clomid) and then progress to iui and eventually ivf if nothing else works. Have they confirmed you’re ovulating? I’d probably try proper cycle tracking first (get a Mira tracker, its a lifechanger). Once you understand exactly what’s happening you’ll be more informed of your choices.

Hi Barbara, thank you for your advice. Yes, definitely bringing an “egg to the table” every month! They discarded IUI because they have no reason to suspect that the sperm can’t reach the uterus

Hi, that’s good you’re ovulating! Have you had a hycosy to confirm your tubes are open? It may still be a timing issue. For us the Mira tracker fixed that entirely (for years I thought I was ovulating way earlier as strip tests pick up just about any LH these days). Have they also checked your partner’s morphology? Just brainstorming here sorry. Going back to the original question, I don’t know about DNA fragmentation. I just found it odd that the NHS would recommend ivf as my experience is they try to avoid that at all costs.
