Vinted help… is this fair? Is there anything I can do?

The seller posted an electronic toy without padding, just in a bag. When I opened it it’s not working. She swears by that when she sent it l, it was working. I told her and she wants me to send it back. But I have to pay for postage! Plus have to prepare the packaging and take it to the shop to post. I told her about the packaging how it’s not sufficient and she’s saying it’s the same box she bought it in, and why should she refund me plus pay for the postage…. I feel like this is not fair ?

In a bag in its original box * that only covers half

It's not fair but unfortunately it's vinteds policy for the buyer to pay return postage.

@Devon would she even refund me if I have removed the item from its packaging to change batteries? Or would she say I’ve damaged it?

I don't know. Have you taken pictures of how it was received.?

It’s not fair but it’s in the terms and conditions when you agree to buy from Vinted unfortunately x

Honestly this is one of the things I hate most about vinted! It's always on the side of the seller

That's policy however if the seller was decent she would pay for the return fee if she's knows it was due to her poor packaging. My mum has brought candles from there before, with poor packaging and sent the photos to the seller and because they were nice they paid for the postage to either return the item or just keep and be refunded.

You can dispute via Vinted, you do need proof of how the item came though and they have to decide. It’s annoying, it’s happened a few times with things that I’ve bought.

It's not fair. That is how vinted keeps costs low and why vinted has the option to add protection for an extra fee. Is there an option to dispute the decision?

@𝔾𝕚𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕝𝕖 buyer protection is automatically added to every sale

Did you click ‘happy with order’ or ‘accept order’? I can’t remember the exact wording but if you’ve accepted the order there’s very little Vinted can actually do as you’ve said it’s fine.
