Not quite Irish twins…🤰🤰

Hello - What happens if I get pregnant whilst on Maternity leave? - Could they find a reason to terminate my employment? - Would I still be paid for maternity leave? More info: The job is relatively new so I didn’t get the full maternity pay, I started in January and baby was born in July. I work in a locked MH facility. Our patients pose a significant risk to others. I was made office based as soon as I disclosed my pregnancy. I had the choice to move to a less risky environment (as I was new I declined as I wanted to get to know my setting and the other environment can still pose risks just less frequent therefore the staff aren’t as comfortable managing them). I’m a charge nurse (a key part of my role is responding to patient escalations and ensuring the different wards are ok when the managers have left.)

-They can’t terminate you for being pregnant. - your mat pay is calculated based on your earnings week 17-25 of pregnancy so being on mat leave during that time will affect how much mat pay you get.

@Lily thank you. I know typically they can’t however as a key part of my role is responding to escalating behaviours i wasn’t so sure as i can’t do what i signed up to do. That’s interesting about the pay. So if i were to work more weekend shifts I’d have a better mat pay?

They could ask you to reshuffle but not terminate you. It would have to be into a similar role aswell. During the qualifying weeks, yes!
