I would definitely get some childcare lined up, for your own peace of mind more than anything else. If you wait until you have a job offer you won't be able to take your time to find the best care for your child, you'll just have to accept whoever has a space at the last minute.
I got a job and sorted childcare in the same week, to start 3 weeks later. I do think I was fairly lucky, but shows it’s not impossible!
@Sarah I suspect it massively depends on what area you're in so it could be worth the OP doing her research and finding out how many nurseries / childminders have availability near her at the moment. There's a lot of competition for spaces now because of the extended funding offer.
Depending what kind of job you’re looking for and how long it’s likely to take. I would look for childcare to start in 1/2/3 months time and then you can tell potential employers this would be when you’re available to start but can then ask nursery if they have availability to bring it forward. Also if you’re struggle to find something it might be you can push back start date or stagger how many days. As mentioned before if in UK If you’ve had any enhanced maternity leave important to check your contract, standard maternity leave should be fine as that is government funded. Also make sure any AL is what you have already accrued whilst being off, not holidays from the next year allowance.
Hey there my lovely, I know this is something your probably not thinking about but in the uk some jobs you have to pay back your maternity money if you do not return after maternity leave so check your contract before you make some decisions and I would get a nursery place first then you could fit your hours around that good luck xx
