Job interview rejection

Ugh. I’m trying to find a new job. I had an interview last week, I thought it went well. There were some red flags like asking me if I had kids during my interview, or if bc I had kids do I have reliable child care or would I call off alot, and it was a bunch of older women and 2 doctors. I didn’t get the job. Probably a good thing though but still, It’s been almost 2 years. Im still looking. It’s getting me so down but, I’m so grateful that I even have a job right now. But, I feel so stuck.

Also salty that I wasted 6 hrs of pto for the damn interview too 😩😅 and 3 hrs of my time shadowing just to get rejected . Let alone even getting an interview anywhere in the first place is so hard. These places/people are soo inconsiderate.

I feel it 😭 im trying to get back into working and have filled out (literally) pushing 50 applications in the last 2 weeks, and have either been rejected or ignored every time 🙃

@Tonya I’m sorry 😢 it’s so rough. I used to do well with interviews and now I feel like there’s such a huge stall everywhere it feels like, and I work in Healthcare so that’s saying something. I hope it eases up soon bc damn. Good luck on your search.

Im looking for customer service! Food service, retail, etc. You know...all the places that ALWAYS have now hiring signs 🙃 Im the same way. Getting the interview used to be the hard part, but i was almost guaranteed to get the job if i could get an interview, and now i just keep getting rejected.

I don’t think it’s legal to ask those questions. Next time someone asks you that in an interview just lie. If they hire you and call you out on it later tell them those questions are illegal in an interview.

Not sure what country you are from but in the UK employers are not allowed to ask if you have children or even your marital status. Good luck with your job search 🤞🏻

@Allison this too!

@Allison yeah, I was honestly stunned they even asked me that! Ofc I’m a terrible liar and I love talking about my kids so I forgot where I was for a sec and I’m almost positive they used that against me.

Questions like that open them to discrimination lawsuits. Really poor form.

Sadly, they probably know exactly what they are doing. I feel wrong line too, but they are wrong for asking you those questions. Just remember that next time someone brings it up in an interview. They are wrong for asking, so you are fine lying. They might be searching your social media so make it private so people can’t see pictures of your kids unless they are friends with you.
