GTT test

I have my glucose test in 2 weeks and I am so nervous. I have had horrendous sickness and was diagnosed with HG and I’m worried I won’t be able to do the test as if I eat or drink anything I will throw up. I’m also unsure if I’m allowed to take my anti sickness meds beforehand because if I don’t I know 100% I will throw the test up… can anyone compare what the drink is like? I’ve read it’s similar to orange laxido and that made me violently throw up and heave… I’m worried about having to test my blood sugars if I can’t finish the test as my normal day I can’t usually eat anything till at least 3-4pm (maybe a little earlier if I have a good day) it’s stressing me out more than I thought and the idea of having to wait 2 hours and not throw up in such a stressful environment (I always throw up at the hospital due to feeling overwhelmed since having HG)

I had my test last week and had my results next day x

I had mine on Monday and it just tasted like sugary orange juice or lucozade sport it’s not a bad drink and it is just the same consistency as a normal glass of juice

@Samantha thank god… I’ve been so worried watching the videos as texture is a massive thing for me. I’m just really worried I’m going to throw it up

@Natasha im sure if you ring the hospital before hand and explain your worries they’ll be able to help or even if you ring your midwife she may be able to reassure you

@Samantha I have a midwife appointment the Friday before my GTT so I will bombard her with questions then 😂 just feeling stressed with it coming up so quickly now Christmas is over.

My hospital gave me a cup of water alongside the drink for the test and said that it was fine to pace myself and drink sips of the water in between, might be worth seeing if it’s the same for you?

Hi Natasha. I am a fellow HG lady too and I'm worried as well. I don't know if you're a member of the Hyperemesis group on Facebook but I see a few ladies on there demanded that they do a different test. I'd maybe read up on it x

I had mine two weeks ago and mine tasted like a flat lemonade. My hospital has introduced a different drink as too many girls have been throwing up from it

I spoke to my midwife about this before Christmas and she said give it my best go but don’t stress over it, there are other ways of testing if needed.
