Remortgage on maternity leave?!

Hey mamas, has anyone in the UK had to do this? How did it go? Any advice? I'm worried my lower mat leave payslips will make things tricky for us. 😢

We moved house while i was on maternity leave and LO was 5 weeks old. I'd imagine doing a remortgage wouldn't be too different, shouldn't be an issue But that's just our experience, might be worth speaking to a mortgage adviser about first, before committing to the application.

I may be wrong but I think they have to take your wages when you return into consideration, not your mat leave wages

Providing you can evidence you’ll rtw on the same pay and conditions you left (they usually just request a letter from your employer) they’ll take your full time pay into account not your mat pay x

Yes our fixed deal came to an end while I was on maternity leave. Your lender will write to you with their new rates and you just go online if you want to accept it or not. I had a look on the comparison sites at other deals but they weren’t much different to what our current provider was offering so I just remortgaged with them and it went through no bother. They didn’t ask for anything x

Yes- my mortgage lender wanted a letter from my employer confirming my return salary, but otherwise no queries

I think remortgaging with the same lender is a lot easier as said above go on online chose another deal I think the complications mostly come into place when they are trying to work out your affordability. So if you change lender or want to move house you may then need additional information from your employer or they might as for details of childcare fees as this determines as well what you will be able to afford

I feel its irrelevant as its only temporary and as long as you can prove your partners pay can cover you should be fine. We are most likely going with the same lender so this may make it easier. I didnt even tell them Im pregnant at my last appt (they didnt ask if our situation has/will change) but by the time we actually renew the baby will have been born xx

When we remortgaged I was no longer employed at all. We stayed with the same lender and nothing changed for us. It didn’t affect our rates or what we were offered.

We remortgaged in June and I have been on maternity leave since January. They just asked for the most recent payslips that were before maternity leave started ☺️

Agree with others that remortgaged with the same lender and we had no questions asked. I was worried about it too

When we remortgage and I was mat leave they didn’t even ask for payslips. (Stayed with same lender)

I work in mortgages. If you’re planning on staying with your existing lender it’s called a product switch, they never ask for documents so it’s a lot more straightforward than remortgaging. However if you speak to a broker and they recommend a rate with a different lender, it is possible they will ask for payslips, but a letter from your employer confirming your return date and salary after mat leave will usually suffice 😊

Thank you so much ladies!!!! 💓

I got a letter from hr comfirming date I will be retiring to work and my salary! All wentnfine xx

I bought a house while on maternity leave and they took my normal pay into consideration

We did while I was on mat leave - I had to show 3 months of my full salary before I went onto mat pay and I had to get a letter from my work to confirm I’d be going back onto the same salary when I went back to work

I've just remortaged on mat leave, no one asked for proof of anything, I just told them what salary I'd be on when I go back x
