Alice, Alicia, Abby HELP

Hello hello Expecting our baby girl anyday now! I wanted to hear some thoughts. We always wanted the name Alice for our baby girl, my husband's cousin has a daughter name Alicia..we rarely see them like not even once a year (they live abroad) Would that be weird?! We thought maybe giving her the Welsh version of Alice (Alys) but neither of us are Welsh. And a nickname we LOVE A LOT is Abby but that is related to Abigail and we are not sure about that... Any thoughts?

I think Alice is completely different to Alicia so I wouldn’t worry, definitely not weird! In terms of nicknames, you can choose whatever nickname you like for her, Alice is a lovely name, I think if you’re both set on it, use it for sure! Xx

Love Alice, You could do a Alice with a middle name starting with B like Alice Belle nicknamed Abby (A.B)

I love Alice or Alys! Have you ever done a family tree? You might find some Welsh in there anyway. We know newborn Alice Nell which I thought was beautiful

Agree Alice is enough different to Alicia to use! They sound quite different pronounced, even if spelt slightly similar. And especially as you don't see them much / at all (expect you'll see them even less when you have kids!).

Or if you decide against Alice, you could do Tabitha with Tabby/Abby for short?

i don't think it would be weird at all. Alicia and Alice are different names - and as you said, you rarely see them. it would be different if the girls were regularly spending time together as maybe one confusing, but it's a fairly distant family member - especially if they live abroad. 🤷🏻‍♂️ i don't think Abby really works as a nickname for Alice - but then again, many people have nicknames entirely unrelated to their actual name. if you aren't keen on Abigail, another option is the name Abilene with the nickname Abby. it could also work as a nickname for Tabitha, Arabella or Gabriella. 💕
