Maternity Leave PPD

I’m currently on maternity leave and my doctor is having weekly check ins with me and so far she wants to keep me off but can only extend my time off by every two weeks(not sure why). Is it okay to ask my doctor for longer time off? I just don’t want to overstep any boundaries. I’m going through a lot right now and I’m not ready to go back to work anytime soon.

You can find a therapist through insurance and file a short term disability for ppd, etc. and that can go for about 12wks. I’m currently on it and will be reevaluated at the 12wk mark. Good luck Mama. You got this!

Im in CA and was able to extend through 6 months as of now but I was extended by a psychiatrist for my PPD because my ob wasn't able to.

I’m trying to get an appointment with a psychiatrist for an extension but I’m now experiencing a gap in my SDI. I’m concerned they won’t extend it but I’m definitely not in a good mental place to be going back to work. Any suggestions?

@Alexis That’s exactly what I experienced. My initial claim was closed and once I met with my Phycologist we opened a new claim.

Ugh that's the worse. I have short term and long term disability which allowed me to extend my time so much. If you're unable to get an appt with a psychiatrist I recommend really advocating for yourself to your doctor or OB and hopefully they will extend you. I see a postnatal psych specialist but it was referred to me through my med group. Definitely keep trying!

I took 2 months off and got disability unemployment then my OB was able to extend disability (SDI) due to PPA for a full month before checking in.

With my first I was able to extend a whole year with my therapist I think that’s the best way to go about it.

@Alexis brite psych services they don’t take insurance but they are super understanding and great with Edd.

My therapist only extends 6 weeks at a time.

Try Mavida Health. Founded by a reproductive psychiatrist specialize in postpartum therapy. Accepts insurance. I use them weekly (3 weeks so far). They are great and will handle any EDD extensions if they stop taking my OB’s extension request. https://www.mavidahealth.com

What else can be done if psych won’t extend more than 4 weeks?
