@Brianna unfortunately my mum's health means she can't help us 😢 My partners parents live to far to help. We'd love if they could help us even if it was for me to work part time
I'm sorry 💔
Have you put in for a flexible working request for more sociable hours if possible?
Have you discussed this with work? Maybe they can come to some sort of arrangement for you.
I have a meeting in person next month to discuss shifts but just looking to see if anyone has options for jobs that mean not spending a fortune on nursery/child care
@Elaine alot of work from home jobs will say you can't be looking after a child at the same time as you can't give your job your full attention
@Rachel yeah I totally understand this. In the past I've known friends who had flexible working hours so for example could work before partner started work and pick up once partner got home as long as they done their contracted hours and got the work done but I think more and more jobs are becoming office based / set shifts again.
Yes, I do. My remote position allows me to work while the kids are napping and once they have gone to bed. I never have to be on the phone or talk to people. I do have a Zoom meeting quarterly that I must be present for, but I make sure hubby is available. I will say most legit remote employers will require childcare, especially if it's an hourly position.
I’m concerned about this to
I have gone back to work full time. I work in the office 3 days a week (both babies go to nursery on those days) and 2 days from home with the babies. It is tough! Although I have them at home with me on those days and get to spend more with them, I also feel guilty as not 100% focussed on them. I feel like no matter what we do, we feel guilt in many different ways. It’s a lose lose situation. Try asking your job for more flexible hours. My job is aware that I have the kids with me on the WFH days - if I have a bad day and cannot get all my work done, they allow me to log on once the kids to go bed.
I work from home 100% but my contract states I can’t have my son there so he’ll be starting nursery three days a week. I’m hoping to work condensed hours so 10 hour days. I’ll be sort of winging the fourth day hoping i can just get away with my partner being here for a half day but as above, most companies won’t allow it x
@Shanee did you start this after kids or did you have this job before and could fit it around them? That's the type of job I'm looking for. Happy to get hours in and log on before kids get up and while nap and after go to bed. My partner also works from home 3 days and he could work around meetings to help out too.
@Roby Peace hopefully you get it sorted. I've emailed my manager today as I've done this job for 6 years always same shifts never expected it to change so it's been a shock to hear this as was working perfectly fine before I left
@Amy this is a nice balance. I'd happily do hybrid working but totally get what you mean about it been hard and also time away from kids. Unfortunately my current job isn't working from home friendly as I work with police dogs 😅

@Elaine I started after my daughter was born. I had every intention of returning to work once my maternity leave was over. But once I saw her, I knew that wouldn't be possible. So once she was about 6/7 months old I started looking for a remote position.
Hey if you inbox me, I can send you a referral link to a remote job I am doing. It is a 1099 job and you can your when you want.
@Skye condensed hours would be good or even hybrid working. Obviously would love the dream of full working from home not paying childcare but totally understanding that isn't possible or feesable in a lot of jobs
@Shanee sounds perfect and good find. I'll need to find something that works for us all. If that's kids in nursery some days a week but I hate idea of 5 days and not seen them and having all my wage on nursery fees
@Elaine yeah I love working from home but I didn’t wanna put my baba in nursery 5 days a week so I’ll be asking them for condensed hours! My actual office is over 2.5 hours away so I’m fully from home aside from the odd overnight trip for a social event but not paying childcare at the same time would be amazing haha the stress of doing both would end me though 😂
