You’re not allowed to carry them out. I’m not sure what the rules are but I did see someone once using their pram but as in attached to the wheels. I’d ask your midwife for a definite answer xx
I carried my baby out in my arms 🤷 you'll get comments on here saying they weren't allowed to leave without their baby in a car seat but it simply isn't true x
I think it’s hospital dependant, speak to your midwife to get a straight answer x
If it’s an infant carrier how can’t it be removed c
@Lu some people don’t have the carrier and use a from birth car seat like the joie 360. I imagine that’s the type she’s meaning as it’s fixed in with isofix xx
I was also wondering this! Because I’m thinking of getting one of those long term car seats but I’m not sure how it works with the hospital. But some people won’t be taking their babies home in a car so I imagine you must let you leave with baby in a buggy. Or perhaps you can ask a midwife to come to the car to double check the fit before you leave!?
@Hayley @Lu yeh thats exactly it, it’s fixed into the isofix so doesn’t lift off of it. It’s the sirona GI with a newborn inlay, made more sense for us as we will hardly use the carrier that fits into the pram and the sirona GI lasts a lot longer.
My hospitals rule was baby to be wheeled out or in car seat ✨
@Kathryn you can definitely take them out in the pram yeh, as you say not everybody has a car. I was thinking the same, if the midwife wants to see the car seat we can take them out to the car and show them. Depending on where you are getting your car seat you might be able to get it fitted by them, we are getting ours from a pram centre who have car seat specialists that will fit on collection so we can be confident it’s fitted securely.
I carried mine in my arms and my husband wheeled me to the car in a wheelchair.
I carried my first son out in my arms and nobody said a thing 🤷 this time I'm taking a sling to put him in just in case they say differently. Not everyone drives the pram bassinet would be fine.
I spoke to my midwife about this, as my car seat doesn’t leave the car either, and she said that we can either bring our own pram in, or they have one on the ward that we can use to get baby out to the car☺️
You’ll be fine to use the pram, there is no need for a midwife to see your baby in a car seat before you leave the hospital as they are not trained in car seat safety anyway.
We took ours out in the pram as our seat is a fixed one. No issues xx

I carried my baby out in my arms ☺️
We had a fixed seat with our first, in the end one of the midwives/support workers wheeled our baby in the little cot hospital he was in on the ward, all the way through the hospital to the outside door where my partner had bought the car to!
Your partner or anyone can literally grab it from the car when it’s time to go home.
