I’m part of a car seat group on FB and there have been a good few posts on about mould on car seats. So could be worth posting a pic on one of these groups. From my understanding, the type of cleaners you’d need to get right, down deep to clean off any mould spores can cause real damage to the integrity of the straps etc. Therefore making it unsafe. I guess you’d need to assess how bad the mould is.
Replacement seat covers is a great idea, I didn’t even realise they sold them. I’ve managed to take it apart and it says the covers can go in the washing machine. Going to assess what it’s like when out of the wash and go from there. It wasn’t thick mould, just specs here and there. But you can never be too careful with our babies. Even it if looks well after wash I think I’ll probably still end up buying replacements just for peace of mind! Thanks for your advice ❤️
@Charlotte by any chance do you have the name of the Facebook group please and I’ll have a look on there too? Thanks ❤️
Of course. Easiest option would be to just post a picture yourself on there of the seat and they can advise. https://www.facebook.com/share/g/15c2ifjzVe/?mibextid=wwXIfr
I had a huge mould issue in our last plast and it got to pur first pram. We had a professional come out to clear the mould and he saw the pram and said to bin it. I asked couldn't we just clean it and he explained that it'll be a constant battle with the mould on the pram as it grows in the fiber of the material. Either get a professional to do it or and I dread to say it get a replacement. Both I know can be pricey
Personally get rid. Mould can damage the integrity of the internal safety bits and the spores will never totally get out of the fabrics and bits. For safety I would get rid and use a different seat
@Charlotte thank you!! xx
First I'd check if there was any mould under the covers if so probably safer to scrap it I'm afraid, if not then replacement covers perhaps. I think once something gets mouldy you can never really clean it off fully unfortunately
