New car seat?

When did we move out of our infant carrier car seat? He’s fully mobile now, dang this kid is heavy but he hasn’t maxed out height/weight requirements for my car seat yet… I’m not fully prepared for there to be a transition, but I feel like it’s coming quicker than I’m expecting. So what was your deciding factor to move to a seat that stays in the car vs the carrier? And how on earth do you wrangle your mobile monsters without a car seat 😂

We did it before she maxed out either. As our baby got more mobile, it was clear she would just prefer a bigger seat. We made the transition around the year mark. She's 20 months now and still hasn't maxed the height and weight of the infant seat. 😆 We held her moving in and out of the car from that point forward. I do miss the days of being able to move her from the car to the house without waking her, though!

@JL the sleep factor is definitely a reason I don’t want to move out of the infant seat 😂

When I went back to work at 10months we got a second seat. We used this in the main car and then used the infant carrier in the car she was only in occasionally until she out grew it

@Ceri-Ann that’s a good idea, my sister would have my son while I’m working and she would need a car seat so that makes it more feasible

Whatever they max out first- for us it was weight. We got 18mths out of our infant carrier. I did a lot of research so had the second seat ordered and waiting until I had to switch

We just realised that our infant carrier wasn't actually safe 💔 when we swapped we decided to get one that would last her as long as possible (but also in our price range!) so we got a 25kg one (an ERF, not an infant carrier) 😊

I switched at 4 months because she was fussy and a lot of kids don't like the bucket seats when they start having neck control because they want to look around. You can always leave the seat in the car instead of uninstalling it every time. ETA: there's another stat you have to look for. They still need 1" above their head with the straps still able to be below the shoulders. Sometimes people forget that one so their seat is outgrown long before the other stats are met :)

My sons 4 months and I’m thinking of getting him a new car seat soon because dude HATESSS the infant seat 😅 he screams the entire time he’s in it

Whichever comes first x

You’ll need to transition whenever your little one meets either restriction, whichever comes first. They don’t need to max out on both. Be sure to read the manual on your infant car seat.

We moved into the next stage seat at around 6 months, he didn't look comfortable anymore. So we got an ERF seat that should last until he's around 6 x

When I got sick of heaving the heavy kid and seat in and out each time lol my first was probably 5-6 months old and my second was like 4 months. No where near maxing out but I was sick of the seat lol. I typically used a carrier and strapped them to my chest when in stores

For the infant carrier car seat, you can wait to max out height, weight OR head height (once one limit is hit, you're done with that car seat) or you can switch to a convertible seat in rear facing mode when the carrier seat stops being convenient. My 2 year old is still rear facing in a convertible seat. My 4.5 year old is still rear facing in my husband's car, but forward facing in my car

We actually never used an infant seat! We've had a convertible seat from the start and used carriers or her stroller anytime we went out. I still use a hip carrier for my 18 month old. But with that being said, as soon as you max out height OR weight, it's not longer safe for you kid. Definitely don't wait for both to max out!
