Positive elective cesarean ☺️

Just some reassurance for anyone awaiting a cesarean, whether it's your first or a repeat. I'm sat at home, 54 hours post op with my baby boy and my toddler cuddled up to me. It was honestly such a calm, straight forward experience (my first was an emergency after long failed induction). I was up and walking ok as soon as my catheter was out, came home after 26hrs, and have managed to poop and shower at home and get up and down the stairs ok! Baby boy has been breastfeeding successfully since the recovery room and my milk is already coming in (probably helped by having EBF my first, but still a pleasant suprise!). I don't mean this to be braggy in any way, and it's not been without it's difficult moments, I just want to reassure anyone anxious that it can be a really positive experience and you aren't losing anything by not labouring naturally. Best advice, be on the ball with your meds, remind the midwives in hospital and set reminders once home. All the best, fellow tummy birth mummies! xx

Thank you. I'm so anxious. I have my 3rd c section tomorrow, 2nd planned, but I'm even more nervous. I'm first tomorrow, which kind of helps xx

Thank you so much for this. Exactly what I needed to read! I have just gotten scheduled in for a planned sunroof exit this Saturday after much deliberation. I’ll be 41+3, definitely don’t want an induction after having one with my first, baby is measuring 9lb according to todays growth scan and i am just exhausted and done (averaging 3hrs sleep a night thanks to insomnia). So ready to meet this baby.

So needed this today, after an awful consultant appointment! Thankyou for the post 🥰

I can absolutely agree. I had an unplanned section 17 days ago but found the whole thing very straight forward! Baby was born at 4pm, I was up the next morning after catheter taken out, showered and removed dressing by midday. Went home just before 4 so less than 24hrs later. Walked back to the carpark which is actually quite far.. it was difficult but I made it. Went straight upstairs when I got home and slept for a few hours and was up picking up my baby and feeding her throughout the night. Took my first walk outside around day 7. Was off painkillers within 12 days and didn't have any pain generally whilst I was taking them. I'm now finding I can walk more comfortably than I could at 36 weeks when I last tried doing the walk I did yesterday. Occasionally I get some twinges in my incision if I do too much.. but I have been able to put my own socks on again for about 5 days or so.. which I haven't been able to do for quite a while!

I did have some serious swelling in my legs and feet that was worse than in pregnancy. It finally went away after 2 weeks. I won't pretend the first few days weren't hard and my husband had to do a lot for me.. but it's made it even better getting my independence back! I can highly recommend getting a litter picker to help you retrieve things you drop!
