Toddler Constipation

Help!!! My 13 month old toddler has been struggling to poop for a week and she cries every time she tries to poop. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’ve stopped feeding her potatoes and rice as I thought that’s what’s making her constipated but no change. Her 💩 is always solid and strong and my heart breaks every time she struggles to poop. I don’t want this to traumatise her so she doesn’t grow to get scared of taking a 💩 but now I’m the one that’s traumatised. Every time she cries I automatically think she’s trying to poop (she never cries unless she’s hungry or tired) What foods can I give her that won’t make her constipated? And what medication can she take to soften her 💩? I’m panicking. Please help.

I think is normal constipation around this age x

Fruit juice helps my boy to pass 💩 Prunes are good, prune pouches mixed into yogurt or porridge x

Apple juice was my go to when little one was constipated

Chia seed pudding tones of fiber foods

Does she have wheatabix or anything like that for breakfast? I still buy the prune pouches for when my little ones get like this and put it on top of wheatabix or ready break in the morning.. also lots of oranges .. x

@Christina I got prune juice but she hates taking it. Any way I can incorporate it into her food?

Sounds like you need to get some lactulose from the doctors. My tittle girl gets constipated a lot and I don't know why as she has a good diet but the doctor said she could end up witj chronic constipation if I didn't act fast and give her regular lactulose. She has oatabix and fruit everyday but only poops every 5 or 6 days.

Is she possibly eating or drinking too much calcium? If she drinks water throughout the day I'd try 4 Oz of concentrated apple juice first thing in the morning to help stimulate to go. But if she only gets 6oz a day of dairy/calcium i.e. 4oz milk & then some in food.. that is weird but you can try upping her green veggie intake to support bowel movements/ this helps naturally soften their stools. She may be sensitive to dairy especially if she's drinking 16oz of water a day

Foods beginning with "P" are always good - prunes, pears.. Also make sure she's drinking enough water each day. You can get lactulose from the doctor if need be 👍 If you recently started her on cow's milk, I think it's common for that to make little ones constipated at the beginning.

I bought from local farmer organic apple juice, 5ml of juice mixed with water 100ml so it's just a bit of taste.. Jesus he was pooping so much better :D
