I'm in the UK so it's slightly different but we have a junior isa for each child and we put a small amount in every month plus any extra birthday or Christmas money they get. The compound interest should mean they have a nice nest egg to use as they wish when they're 18+ Further education and training is (a little) more affordable here and our student loans system is more reasonable so I'm not saving for that. If we can afford to help with accommodation or something at the time then we will. I'm considering setting up a pension for each of my kids as that'd obviously be amazing in terms of interest. Feels lower priority though as it's so far in the future and we'd be long gone.
