Constipation

I’m 28 weeks plus 3 days and for the past few weeks, I’ve been really constipated. Anyone else been struggling with this too? If so, any tips would be appreciated 🙏🙏

This is so random and I discovered it by chance, but I’ve been having bran flakes for breakfast and after having been constipated the whole pregnancy I’m now regular again. I tried other high fibre foods, like prunes, and even lactulose and nothing has worked as well as bran flakes! I didn’t even buy them for that reason, I just fancied them 😂

Yes from around 22 weeks, it's awful the hospital prescribed me lactulose to soften stools, worth getting it checked out, or drink prune juice, eat all bran, it's horrible because pressure builds and baby is putting pressure on organs like intestines x

I second lactulose! You don’t need it prescribed, you can get it over the counter at a pharmacy and it’s cheap

So random! When I hit 28 -29 weeks I had the same thing, prunes have honestly saved me, 4 a day and it’s a super natural way to help yourself x

Dates with peanut butter & chocolate - really helps. I prefer to try natural methods / not meds & have had severe constipation at times. Veg, fruit & smoothies all help too! Lots of fibre & daily movement

Kiwis 🥝 I eat two a day with the skin on, works so well for me!

Thank you all so much!! I’m just so desperate to have regular bowel movements again 😭

I agree with @Rachel, bran flakes keep me regular every day and if I miss a day, I can tell😂

Flax seeds help too. You can add them onto toast, yoghurt, porridge, smoothies etc

Did you have your blood tests yet? I was going through this and my blood came back low iron. So all the iron I was taking was actually making me more constipated and lowering my iron I increased my iron supplements. Stopped the iron and was able to go as normal again

@Marilyn my bloods came back fine! That was my initial thought but my midwife was happy with everything but I am measuring 3 weeks bigger 😊

Also make sure you’re drinking plenty of water

@Lucy yay that’s great news! Okay then defo the fiber could help and water water water
