Yes find out what hair type he had: if you can’t then best to detangle while wet with conditioner and wet brush or wide tooth comb.
Please start from his ends and not his roots and slowly work your way up his hair to prevent pulling and shedding. I’ve found that a bamboo brush/comb work really well as they don’t cause as much friction in the hair while brushing.
I brush her hair when wet, I use a tangle teezer brush or wide tooth comb and either brush straight after I shampoo & condition, or on days I don’t wash it I will wet it, put leave in conditioner on and then brush. You need to figure out his hair porosity and which products work for that. On a daily basis, I use leave in conditioner (Camille rose) and when it needs more definition, their curl maker gel or a mousse. I wash once a week as her hair gets quite dry x
Thank you all 🫶🏻🫶🏻
I love camille rose honey leave in conditioner
Depends what hair he actually has. Too many parents of mixed children refer to their hair as afro when its not
Agreed @Gigi L Like my hair 4c hair type would be Afro but a 3b would be more curly with tighter curls than a 3a. And all of these types may require different products.
Figure out what curl type he has by googling curl patterns. Then chose products accordingly. Most curly / Afro has is best for detangling when it’s soaking wet and with a brush . Not a regular paddle brush but one that’s specifically designed for use when wet or you could use a wide tooth comb if he has type 4 hair
