How to go to the airport without a car seat?

Hey mamas, we need to go to the airport with our 2 year old. We aren't taking our car and not taking our car seat along as it's super bulky and the country we're going to doesn't use them. I've tried Uber but they don't have any cars that have a car seat provision. Unfortunately we're travelling on a weekday and can't really expect friends with car seats to give us a ride. Any suggestions or advice? We can't afford another smaller car seat (in terms of space at home).

If you and your family are comfortable traveling in a taxi there are some companies that have designated drivers that keep a car seat at all times. They're usually the drivers who have children that go to daycare on retainer so they always have one in the trunk.

How long are you going for? For a 5 day trip we actually took the car seat and checked it in the airport luggage storage for $60 and change. (This is Vancouver airport) And for Longer trip >5 days we took the city taxi. You can book in advance and they don't need you to have a car seat for children. You'll have to hold your baby on your lap

@Sadaf That sounds great, I'll check it out, if you have any recommendations for taxi companies, please let me know. Thanks!

@Bhumika We're going for a month, I think the taxi option will work for us, thanks!

In Toronto, there are park-n-fly service companies. We used it a few months back and it worked well. We picked up the driver at the facility that was very close to the airport. Then the driver dropped us off at the airport and parked the car. That way we could drive the car with the car seat to the airport. Coming back was also easy - just gave the driver a call. Maybe you can look it up in your city too.

Please know that taxi drivers are exempt from ensuring your child is safely secured in the vehicle but you as the guardian are not exempt. Physics does not change in a taxi. Public transport (bus, train, trolley) is really your best option without a car seat. I understand not wanting to take your car seat but it is safer for your child to be in a car seat on the airplane. There are lightweight, budget friendly, car seats like the Evenflo Sonus that are easier to cart through the airport than the all in one seats. Transport Canada recommends that all children under the age of 7 be in car seats on planes as the seatbelt will not fit them properly. This becomes an issue with turbulence and in the event of a crash as your child may submarine under the lap belt and be ejected from their seat in both instances. I know that sounds harsh but I feel every parent should have this knowledge before they make the decision that is best for them and their family.
