New Job

Hey guys! So I’ve got a new job recently and I’m going from part time to full time. I’m putting my baby in a nursery when I start. The job is subject to a DBS check so I obviously have to wait for that to go through before I can officially start. I just need some guidance really about start dates etc. I don’t want to really have my baby start until I officially start the job. Is it possible for me to secure her a place in a nursery but ask them if she can officially start once I start working if that makes sense? And if I did it this way, would I have to pay something upfront before she starts? Also, about the 15 hours free childcare thing. I haven’t been eligible because I’m part time atm and earn below the threshold for the 15 hours free to apply. But technically, I am eligible now because I have this new job, it’s just that I can’t start until the DBS goes through. But I know how many hours I’d be doing and I know what my hourly rate is. To apply for 15 hours free childcare, could I apply now (so before I officially start working full time), or would I “not be eligible” until I actually start working? I’m honestly so confused and I just want to know where to go from here. Really, we need her to be in a nursery before I start but I don’t really want to spend a huge amount in the first month when I don’t even have to if that makes sense? I feel like I’m rambling and I hope this makes sense but I think I don’t know what I don’t know😂

You can apply for the funded hours within 30 days of your start date. You can also secure a place before you start, you just need to give them an idea of when she will be starting with them 😊 Some take a deposit to secure the place, some don't. We pay for a month on the first of that month so also depends when you start.

As above, you can't apply until 30days before you start work. Also, if you go back now for example, you can't claim any funding until the April term anyway. Also, you need to find a nursery and there's sometimes huge waiting lists. I would find a nursery first and talk to them 👍

Also keep in mind that there will probably be a settling in period for your little one that you’ll need to be available for so make sure you have all the relevant information from the nursery so you can plan accordingly.

Thanks so much guys! Going to have a look around at some nurseries on Monday! My DBS has come back already!!!! But I do still have to work my notice so that buys me a bit of time :)
