Savings, budgeting, and cash stuffing!

Budgeting and being savvy. My partner would drive for Amazon on the side if we ever needed extra money. It was easy to pick up 2 hour jobs and he got paid weekly.

Economise, save and budget. You just sort of get used to having less money and not buying luxuries or going out to eat. We also bought all the big budget items (nursery furniture, pram, car seats etc) we would need before I went on SMP. We have oil as we’re off grid so we stocked up for the year just before baby came so we didn’t have to thinking about buying oil while on SMP.

Budgeting and my partner did UberEats/JustEat to supplement.

Pre planning years in advance by making all our outgoings affordable on one wage.

Saved before hand. Had a huge clear out at home and sold things on FB marketplace and Vinted.

Saved before hand and budgeting

I calculated the amount needed to take the pressure off (for us about £5/6k) and saved it up in a separate maternity fund. We had to go through ivf though which gave us the benefit of time to really plan and prepare. Then during mat leave I was quite frugal and towards the end, did the odd freelance gig. My current pregnancy was a complete surprise however, so things will be a lot tighter.
