Dummy

I keep seeing so many posts about babies refusing dummies and how they can help them take it and it makes me wonder am I wrong for not offering one? I always said I’d prefer my baby to not have one to save having to get it off him later and also them waking in the night because it has come out so I’ve never tried to offer him one. Everyone seems to be trying and want help getting them to take one so I’m wondering what I’m missing and if I should offer one?

Honestly, you can do without the dummy. Baby will suck their hands or thumbs and it will be ok. I have 3 dummies, my LO sometimes takes it maybe to fall asleep but she refuses it most of the time. Dummy hasn't made a huge difference for me so I won't force it on her and maybe it is a blessing in disguise haha

I tried 2 different brands and my baby didn’t want it. I accepted that she didn’t like them. I’m not going to force it on her. My first born was the same.

I never wanted to use a dummy but my little one has reflux so we bought these anti reflux ones thinking they’d help and he doesn’t entertain them so secretly I’m quite pleased!

I have a niece who is 4 and still sucks her hands raw. I suppose the flip side is that you can always take a pacifier away, but you can't take their hands away.

Yeh so I’ve always said if my baby becomes obsessed with sucking his thumb then I’ll offer a dummy as it’s easier to remove a dummy than his thumb but for now I don’t offer him a dummy as he’s OK without. He has started chewing his hands lately but I heard that’s all part of discovering them so don’t want to stop him doing it. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t wrong for not offering him one as people seem adamant they should have one x

I never wanted my boy to have a dummy, as someone who works with children and sees the effect it can have, it’s a big no no. However, my boy really needed to have something to suckle on in those early days and he wasn’t able to use his fingers. So the dummy helped with this but he’s not reliant on it in the slightest. He literally has it when he stirs in the night, or when he sometimes needs comfort and soothing of the suckling reflex but isn’t hungry yet. He also uses his hands and fingers. If he also takes him dummy out once he’s regulated himself😂 I just prefer the dummy at night because my god is he a noisy bugger when using his fingers 😂

I think dummys are a godsend personally! My seconds only just taken one at 10 weeks and it’s helped him so much with settling. We have the bibs one after trillion!!!! X
