Holiday coach transfer with toddler

We’re planning our first trip abroad in May when our daughter will be 18 months old. We are thinking of booking a package and it includes coach transfer and you have to sit your child on your knee. Have other people done this? I don’t like the idea of my daughter not being strapped in!

I haven’t done this but I’m going away in June so have been looking at transfers and that seems to be the way. They only get a seat if it’s private which then you could use a car seat if not they’re expected to sit on your lap because it’s classed as public transport x

Done this many a time, and been ok for us… harder when bigger, especially when they’ve been sat on your knee for the flight but much easier than taking a car seat!

we’ll be going on holiday in july when she’s 23 months, we’re taking her car seat and booking a private transfer because i just won’t risk it x

I have done this, my son was 9 months old. I didn’t like it but it was the only option. One option is to put them in a sling whilst you’re belted in for a little bit of reassurance.

@Abby this wouldn't reassure me at all, because if there was a crash the weight of your body would crush the child I'd only book a private transfer, it's the only way that a little one can travel safely

@Sophie clearly I am not saying that makes it safe. But in a more minor accident the chance of a baby being flung out of your arms would be removed. Obviously a private transfer with a properly installed car seat with a known history is the safest option but not always an available one.
