Pregnancy Loss Medical Negligence UK

Anyone sued their trust in the UK for pregnancy loss negligence and been successful as I know it’s extremely difficult to do so? On the 30th November 2024, the EPU confirmed I ‘lost’ my pregnancy, chemical pregnancy, due to my low HCG levels. No scans or other follow up appointments. It is on my files they diagnosed it as a loss so I trusted them. On New Years Day, I found out that I had a ectopic pregnancy (I collapsed at work) which ended up in emergency surgery and the loss of my fallopian tube due to what the doctor said “the pregnancy was too big to just use methotrexate”. I knew from the start this was still my baby they confirmed I lost in November, yet they are making me think I am crazy. They kept asking if I had unprotected sex between the time and I said “No, I didn’t even have protected sex. I was still grieving my loss the first time round.” After my surgery, I ended up talking to an amazing nurse later on in the week for my follow up after my op and she seemed disgusted by how the doctors treated me. No support or even leaflets given to me. I was just given my discharge papers and was told to leave. She did discuss the scan with me and the terms she was using, I was around 9 weeks pregnant once they were removed from me. AROUND THE SAME WEEKS AS I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LAST TIME ROUND. I have gained so much trauma from this and also having to grieve twice is so so hard that I can barely cope. I feel so lost.

Sorry you’re going through this. I had scan and a blood test to confirm my levels were dropping and have been simply sent on my way and told I should be negative on a test in 2 weeks time. No support offered or leaflets or anything. She simply told me I looked like I was taking it/doing well.

My EPU were really good. When I tested positive I felt a bit off as my left side ovary and back were slightly hurting so I contacted my gp and they referred me to my EPU. My EPU said they couldn’t detect my pregnancy and I was 5 weeks so diagnosed me with “PUL” pregnancy in unknown location. They told me to come back in two days for more bloods and scans and same thing again until like day 6 where I was 6 weeks pregnant they found the embryo I in my fallopian tube. My bloods were not high enough for medication or surgery and the consultant said we’d like to take the natural management route first. They called me every four days and gradually my ECG was dropping after they saw it drop they called me in weekly until it went to 0 then they discharged me. They also said to me if I fall pregnant again to come straight to them with no appointments to get myself checked. Honestly the experience itself was traumatic but my EPU were amazing from nurses to head nurse to consultant.

Based on what you are saying they did neglect you. They should have called you back until the HCG went zero and done scans on until that point. They should not have discharged your without your HCG dropping to zero that’s a requirement. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this.
