Hygienist while pregnant - embarrassed

I have a hygienist appointment on Tuesday (booked before I was pregnant) anyway I’m now 18 weeks pregnant and my gums are suffering, they are bleeding when brushed which I’ve read can be normal in pregnancy. I know a visit to the hygienist will help but I’m embarrassed to go knowing I will bleed etc. has anyone been while pregnant? We’re they sympathetic or any dental hygienists who can comment…

yes you should go while pregnant they deal with that all the time don't stress

I went whilst pregnant, also whilst struggling with bleeding gums, it’s totally normal and they’ll probably be able to give you some advice on how to help soothe them a bit ❤️

By hygienist I’m assuming you mean dentist? I went to see the dentist when I was pregnant because I was suffering with bleeding/receding gums and they were lovely x

@Hermione no this appointment isn’t with my dentist it’s with the dental hygienist at the practice it’s just a clean/scale and polish not a check up x

I been a few times during my pregnancy and even panicked about it in beginning and was reassured it was normal and hormones make our gums more sensitive. They were really sweet and I was happy I went :)

Hey, I’m a dentist (uk) and bleeding gums is very common. Don’t be embarassed it happens to most mums. The hyg appointment will definitely help calm it down. It’s not really anything you’re doing it’s the changes in hormones that causes it, don’t worry about gun disease it’s just hormones. If you’re unhappy with any feedback they give then send me a message xxx

I went last week. I had terrible sickness until about 3 weeks ago and gagged on anything and everything so my dental hygiene hasn't exactly been top notch over the past few months. I was honest. And she was totally understanding tbh.
