@Rashelle does decaf have the same effect? I literally abstained from water and everything and just completely forgot this morning 😩
You might be ok what time is your appointment? Just don’t have anything else at all now. If you don’t pass you can always ask to repeat it. However some people do get sick 🤢 and can’t complete the testing and have to do the home test for 3 days, so there are other ways of checking. Also from 36 weeks they can do a HBA1c and PGT blood test to check again anyway. I’m sure you will be ok. Take headphones you will be there a while and to stop you hearing people be sick.
Was it black coffee? I’m no expert but when you are fasting (for non pregnancy testing reasons) black coffee is fine.
@Rashelle why is everyone being sick haha what’s going to happen when I’m there! Thanks I’ve tried to call them but no answer my appointment is in two hours x
@Natalie unfortunately not it was decaf but milk and a sugar, honestly feel like such an idiot
@Jessica it’s because of how sweet the drink is and because it’s been consumed on an empty stomach, also you have a 5 minute time limit to finish it. They take bloods before, then after you drink it, wait 2 hours then more bloods.
@Jessica hopefully a small sip won’t impact 🤞🤞🤞
You’ll be turned away unfortunately and given another date :(
Call up and tell them, they'll either try anyway or give you another date. I'd imagine it'd be okay, it was only a sip and it's a cheap test for them to do so if they had to repeat it it wouldn't be a massive problem. Alternatively, don't say anything. It won't give you a false negative and if it comes back positive then you can ask for a repeat test. Don't panic about people throwing up, me and the two girls that did their test at the same time as me were all okay. I actually quite enjoyed the drink haha, it's like a strong squash. But it does get boring being sat there, my phone died and I finished my book so make sure you bring enough to keep you occupied for at least 3 hours just in case you're sat there for a bit before your test too
You can only have water from midnight the night before. Water helps them take the blood. I would give them a call. I had one Friday, not a single person being sick & there were 19 of us☺️ The drink is just a sugary water & tastes nice. I can’t drink anything you dissolve in water, but this is fine!
Good luck today! Hope the results aren’t affected & hope all goes well!☺️
hope you manage to have your test but i have a feeling they’d make you reschedule! i’ve just had my GTT test, if wasn’t bad at all! took 4 vials of blood, gave me the drink to have, then told me to wait back in the waiting room for two hours (which is the boring part, damn i don’t wanna sit here till 10:50 but needs must) xx
Hope it goes well, just to say not everyone is sick, I found the liquid tasted quite nice (might have just been the flavour I was given though!) as lots of people had said it’ll be gross, so just wanted to share to give some positives 👍
Thanks everyone, they wouldn’t see me so had to reschedule, very annoyed with myself!

I would get another appointment this will mess up the results unfortunately
@Jessica that must be so annoying, but things happen! now drink as much coffee as you like 😆xxx
@Jessica decaf is lowering the blood sugar, my manager had gestational diabetes and sometimes she was having decaf before her daily test so she can trick the results.
Probably for the best, you don’t want to think you have GD just because of that coffee! Honestly it’s no fun at all, hope it comes back negative for you 🤞
Well if it helps when I was pg during covid etc they didn't want mums waiting around so they stopped all fasting blood glucose tests and just did regular blood tests!
It says on my information leaflet black coffee, tea and water are fine!
Unfortunately caffeine can affect the test results. If you were going to sip anything water would have been a better option. Caffeine can raise your blood sugar.
