Cruise/ferry holidays

I've never done a ferry or cruise holiday but thought it might be easier for us to plan our 1st holiday and get a ferry somewhere or cruise from Portsmouth My question is has anyone got any recommendations on ferry/cruises to do with a 1yr old? I have no idea, but thought it would be easier than going abroad and getting flights 🤔

I used to go on cruises with my family all the time when I was younger, usually to Spain which is a good place for going with kids. I highly suggest going with P&O cruises, they have great play areas for kids on the boat

I have just booked our first cruise holiday from Southampton 7 nights back to Southampton on day 8 and we are taking our 11 month old in September - it seems like a lovely way to get away without too much stress - we booked it though Iglu and we are going with MSc cruise line xx

@Lucy that's what I'm thinking, what cabin style did you book? I think its was looking at a similar thing yesterday but the standard cabins looked quite small, im guessing we would take our travel cot with us, what do you plan to do? X

So we have gone for a balcony Aurea and they provide travel cots so we have requested one - at the end of the day all we will be doing is sleeping in the room - we will spend barely any time in there xx

I’m going on a cruise in April with my little one who will be just under 2. Not been on a cruise before but we thought it should be easier sailing from southampton then going to Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands, then back to Southampton. P&O provide a travel cot. We’re looking forward to it though not quite sure what to expect!

@Kayleigh did you just go with a basic cabin? did you book it direct with p&o? How long are you going for? @lucy Did you upgrade and include a drinks package? X

We booked a balcony cabin - thinking of her nap really as it means we can sit out on the balcony and not in a dark room! Yes booked through P&O and it’s 13 nights x

We went on the Iona (P&O) when my little girl was 18 months, it was great, we visited the Norwegian fjords. Only thing is you can't put them into the night nursery until they are 2 years old so was a bit annoying cos we had to take it in turns to go to the entertainment.

@Gemma I didn't realise they had to be 2yrs for the night nursery (although I wasn't really comfortable with leaving our baby in there, makes me feel a little bit mean) Not sure if it will work for us as taking it in turns to enjoy entertainment or fibber doesn't really feel like a holiday to me, i might have to have a rethink and maybe just bite the bullet and book a flight x

I mean we still really enjoyed it, just wanted u to be aware of that. I mean it's easy going from Southampton x

Just one thing to bare in mind that if your thinking of doing a cruise in the summer/ them to go in the pool a lot of cruise lines have a potty trained policy. Have a look for one with a splash zone instead so they don’t feel they are missing out x
