Private health options? (uk)

I have just found out I’m pregnant - I’ve had 2 miscarriages at 8.5 weeks and 1 chemical pregnancy so I am desperate for this one to stick!! Has anyone had private help with early pregnancy I am just looking for what avenues I have or what help I can get. I’ve read about baby aspirin and progesterone but when can I get offered these? Last pregnancies ended before I got seen by anyone, so I need help sooner. If anyone has gone private how did you go about it? And what are the rough costs?

Are you under recurrent miscarriage unit NHS? They should be able to help x

@Olivia no I’m not :( do you know how I get under their care? I’ve tried to register with early pregnany unit today but haven’t heard back x

I had one miscarriage at 9 weeks last year. On my final scan at the EGU/EPU where they confirmed it was complete, they said next time you’re pregnant call us directly and book a 6 week viability scan. 3 months later I did, I’d had some implantation bleeding and told them. They confirmed the pregnancy, and prescribed progesterone on the spot (NICE guidelines for progesterone are 1 miscarriage and early bleeding, tell a white lie if you need to). All on the NHS, after only one loss. You shouldn’t have to go private for care, I’m so sorry you’ve experienced this ❤️‍🩹

@Madeleine thank you that’s super useful. I’m so sorry you experienced a loss too 🥺. I will give the EPU a call tomorrow 🤞🤞

I really hope they’re able to help you, I have heard it’s a bit of a postcode lottery even though it shouldn’t be xx

Also, to add to this useful advice you can get low dose aspirin from the supermarket/savers etc. It's just 2× 75mg low dose aspirin so can get anywhere

I’m under consultant care as I was going to start ivf treatment in the next few months and I found out im pregnant. My consultant has booked me into EPU and is starting me on progesterone today asap until 12 weeks - so sorry for your loss x

@Stephanie was it ok that you have no bleeding? The guideline states they give progesterone if you bleed, but I’ve heard many people saying they’ve got it anyways! I’ve had 3 miscarriages and will try to get pregnant again soon, and really want to get the progesterone when that happens.

@Boglárka I know it’s probably not ethical but honestly I’d say you’ve had spotting even if you hadn’t ♥️

@Boglárka I had mild spotting which they think is implantation since it lasted 1 day. I’m 5 weeks on Thursday and she scanned me anyway and saw a very small sac , so she took my HCG. Depending on results, she will start me on the progesterone but she located my corpus luteum and lining was good

Thanks all - I spoke to the early pregnancy unit today and they’ve booked me in for an early scan at 6 weeks to check the pregnancy is in the right place and said they would give me progesterone to help it stick x

@Madeleine I don’t think it’s unethical, at this point, a white lie wouldn’t hurt. It’s just sad that we have to do that to get what we need… With my last miscarriage (third one), I called EPU as soon as I started spotting. I told them on the phone that I’ve already had two miscarriages (very recent as well), and that we saw the baby with a heartbeat at 8 weeks. They still haven’t seen me! They just told me to wait and see. My midwife told me the same, call them again if I bleed or it’s fresh blood. Later I’ve found out about the guidelines. I can’t help but think that maybe the outcome would have been different if they gave me progesterone. I’ll never know now.

@Boglárka Tbh I don’t really think it is either, you have to work the system sometimes to get what you should already have access to! I had progesterone until 16 weeks and I’m now almost 39 weeks, I’ll never know if it made a difference but I have to hold on to it ❤️‍🩹

@Stephanie keep us updated 🙏🏻🤞

@Madeleine they do say the chances are very low, but I see so many women saying that they’ve had multiple miscarriages, and finally a full term pregnancy once they were on the progesterone.🙏 Definitely worth the try.😊

This is great!! Are they starting you on progesterone now or making you wait until 6 week scan?

@Olivia after the 6 week scan if the pregnancy is in the right place (and not ectopic) x

@Madeleine I missed to say…congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope you’ll have the best birth experience.🙏❤️ If you don’t mind, I’d love to see a baby picture, please dm me if you happy to share any.🤗🥰 It’s refreshing to hear success stories, and gives so much hope.
