I am 36+4. I have an appt tomorrow and I am prepared for them to ask if I would like one. I am planning to decline but I will be open to a cervical check at my 39 week appointment.
@Kelsey Thank you! I feel like my OB likes to do them later since she told me she didn’t want to do it at my 37 week appointment. I’m hoping tomorrow will be different but congrats on your progress and wishing you a great birth!
@Alexis Thank you and same to you! I hope you get the answer you’re looking forward to tomorrow.
@Kelsey Thank you! I’m staying hopeful
I had one at 37 weeks only because I was having extreme cramping and she wanted to check and make sure I wasn’t close to active labor! (75% effaced and 2cm) I have my 38 week appt tomorrow and they’ll likely check again. It wasn’t painful for me at all!
I was checked at 36 weeks and cervix is firmly shut - I thought it was quiet painful
I just had mine at 36 weeks. Didn’t hurt at all, in fact, I didn’t even think it was uncomfortable. No after effects. 1cm dilated, 50% effaced!
@Abby that’s great progress! I’m hoping for good news myself!
@Deanna I’m hoping I’ll have a similar experience. Seems like some moms find it painful while others do not.
With my daughter I got checked and had a sweep twice and it wasn’t comfortable but I wouldn’t say painful. I’m 36 +3 and the one I had today was borderline painful. I also bled after this check whereas with my daughter I did not even spot after the sweeps.
I’m 37 weeks and have never gotten one. I don’t see the necessity if you’re low-risk and you and baby are healthy.
my OB only does cervical checks if ur experiencing contractions or if there’s an actual reason for them otherwise they won’t do them (which i actually appreciate lol)
I’m 37 weeks and I’ve never had a cervical check
I am 38 and 2 days and I started getting cervical checks at my 36 and 5 week appointment. I am not a fan of them at all. They are painful to me but I will never refuse them. It’s helped me show my progress towards active labor which is hopefully soon before my induction on Sunday. I also have a posterior cervix and I was told this can make them more uncomfortable/painful. At my last check I was 3 cm and 75% effaced. So good luck momma! Hope it goes well for you!
