If you buy your child’s friend a birthday present and can’t make it to the birthday party do you give them the gift or return it?

So my mom’s friend’s son had a birthday over a month ago. We ended up with the flu and couldn’t go to his party after I had already got him a gift card. I’m extremely temped to use it since I have no idea when we will be able to give it to him and my mom hasn’t

I typically try to give it to the intended person. I want them to know I was still thinking about them despite having to miss

Use it for sure

I think it depends on how close a friend they are.

I generally don't attend kid parties unless we are close to the child so if I bought a gift id make sure they get it so they know we didn't forget them❤️

Usually if it’s an actual gift I’ll get it to them somehow but just being a gift card I don’t feel is as exciting for a small child lol

I would’ve shipped it 😅

I'm confused. Is it your mom's friends son or your child's friend? They seem like 2 different things. Because the first sounds like a teenager at the youngest and the other could be a toddler. How often do you see this family? How old is the child?

This happened to us once and I wanted to still give it to the child but we kept forgetting so at one point my son just took it for himself 😅 I had the intention though.

@Hannah it’s both lol my mom works with his mom but also he is 4 and friends with my daughter. The point of mentioning it’s my mom’s friend’s son is she sees her all the time and hasn’t thought to take it. I see him every few months most of the time

@Tessa, oh, I see. That makes sense. I'd just use the gift card at this point, but also, a gift card is an odd choice for a 4 year old, so that threw me too, lol
