Dilation

For those of you who have given birth before—when did you start dilating and when did you go into labor? My Doctor checked me today at 35 weeks since I had contractions the other day but I wasn’t dilated at all.

My first baby I had an exam on a Friday and I was 1cm. Went into labor early Monday morning. I was 38w 3d. I never felt any contractions I just had an exam today at 38w5d and I am 3cm dilated. Been having some contractions over tge past week so I'd say labor is progressing more slowly this time. Its always different! Plus I've been having Braxton hicks since around Christmas time

It depends on your body tbh i seen someone here say she went to her dr at 3cm and went into labor that same night

Yeah, it really just depends on your body and when baby is ready. I had a family member who got checked at 35 weeks was 1 cm, then got checked at 37 weeks, was 3 cm, got a membrane sweep, then still didn't go into labor until 41+3. She was so stressed getting checked and things not progressing, it just caused anxiety, but she had a healthy natural labor and birth when her body was ready. I'm 38 weeks and won't get cervical checks. Not worth the anxiety.

@Melissa sounds like you’re close!! Good luck!!

@Noelle I’m hoping I start dilating soon but it clear things can progress quickly!!

@Miranda wow! I’m with you, idk if I’ll get any more—I know I’ll just fixate on the number and stress about it!

So for my first I was 1cm dilated by 35 weeks but got stuck like that until I got induced at 41 weeks. I just got checked at my 36 week appointment and nothing. I’m getting checked again tomorrow at 37 weeks and hope I made some progress with all the pressure and random cramps I have

With my first I was somewhere between 1-2 for several weeks before he was born! This time, I was 2.5cm at my 38 week appointment, I have my 39 week appointment today actually, so I’m excited to see if anything’s changed! Just take it all with a grain of salt, dilation doesn’t mean a ton and can take weeks until you get to 4-5cm, that’s when the REAL labor kicks in 🤣

I don’t remember with my first but I just had my 2nd on Sunday! I had an appointment the Tuesday before and was 2 cm dilated. I went into labor Saturday and was only a 3.

@Abby I’m 4cm and having contractions every 2-4 minutes and the ob sent me home and told me to monitor them

I had my 37 week appointment yesterday and still at zero cm dilated, 0% effaced!

@Raye-Lyn contractions every 2-4 mins is definitely hospital time how she sent you home😳

@Noelle she said I’m only 4cm and they are crippling so I’ll be fine. Mind you I live an hour from the hospital.

@Abby how was your appt?

@Raye-Lyn wow im surprised and thats so far😳😳i hope you make it when its time to deliver!

God I hope so!! I was cramping for a while when I got into work this afternoon but its stopped now 🫠

@Raye-Lyn They said I’ve definitely progressed more since last week! Said now I’m at least 3cm and that “babies head is RIGHT there” lol 🙃 /so that’s fun!

I’ve been having lots of contractions since yesterday afternoon and had a doc appt today and doctor literally said “one big sneeze and she might pop out” based on where her head is. Still having contractions too. And I’m only 35+5

I went to my doctor’s appointment on Monday, which I was 38 + 1 and not even 1 cm dilated… but I have had a lot more contractions. I am getting nervous since I have GD and I don’t want to get induce 😭
