I had mine today! First the do a finger prick test then take blood. Then they give you the drink and honestly it wasn’t that bad they dilute it so it just tasted like flavoured water! Then it’s a two hour wait so bring something to keep you entertained and bring water because the drink will make you thirsty. Then after the two hours you have the second blood test and you’re done! Apparently results should be in by the next day so not a long wait either Good luck!!

Thank you! @Lucy , did you go to work after? X

@Larissa no worries! Yeah I went to work after (well I got breakfast first because I was hungry lol) but yeah I felt completely fine after! There were five other people getting done at the same time and all of us felt fine x

They didn't do a finger prick test for me, it was a proper blood test in the crook of your arm before and 2 hours after. The drink was fine, just like a strong oasis. I was fine after, drove home and went back to work x

@Gina I had the finger prick and then the proper blood test before the 2 hours! Apparently it was to make sure I was in range to be able to do the test

Oh, no idea haha what were your results? My after 2 hour figure was 7.8 and 'normal range' is below 7.8 so just on the border but it means I'm now being treated for gd 🙄

I’ve got mine in a few weeks🤞 But I don’t bleed well for blood tests and always end up on phlebotomy 🙈 tried all tips and tricks! Just always end up there 🙈 so the two in one day will be fun!

@Lucy Ah! Ok thank you hun! Very helpful x

@Gina Aw ok!

My first baby I had to go to hospital, and a proper blood test, drank the drink and had to sit there for 2 hours before more blood was taken. It was hot & boring sat in a room with a load of other women, so def take a book or something! This time I’ve been sent an at home test so can just chill on my sofa when I have to do it next week. Bliss!

Can you eat food in the 2 hour gap (inbetween the x2 blood tests)?

@Giselle S no only drink water 😢

@Sarah I’m definitely going prepared!

@Giselle S No just water , only once you’ve done the second blood test x

Good luck !!!! Mine is in a few weekssssss

Does everyone have to have this test?

Do you mind me asking how far gone you are? Did you ask for this? Or were you told to have it? X

@Steph @Sylvie you have to have it if you fit one of the categories eg high bmi, family history of diabetes etc. I had mine done at 26 weeks and they usually do it between 24-28. They can do them after if baby is measuring big. This page tells you the at risk categories 😌 https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/gestational-diabetes/

@Lucy thanks ! I seen loads of people saying they have them and was wondering why I haven’t 🤣

My baby is measuring big in the tummy area and diabetes run in my family so I have to have the test. I had it on 21st Feb and I threw up in the 2 hour gap so they couldn’t continue the test so I have it rebooked on 7th March and I’m super nervous about it 😭
