Allergies/allergy tablets

I’ve always suffered with allergies, pets/dust/hayfever everything! I didn’t take anything first 16 weeks of pregnancy and when I saw my midwife at my 16 weeks apt she saw I was suffering and said to definitely take piriton as it’s given to pregnant people in hospital and it’s safe etc. I’m 26 weeks and have taken it when I feel desperate but still always feel like I’m doing something wrong as online it says all sorts, is anyone else in a similar position?

I’ve always had horrific allergies (even have to carry EpiPens) and have carried on taking Loratadine during my entire pregnancy, my midwife said it was fine and so far I haven’t had any problems. You can buy it from any pharmacy or boots etc. Before you take any medication you can check the BUMPs website for its safety in use in pregnancy

@Camilla thank you, I didn’t even know that website existed! Very helpful x

I called 111 to ask for advice on allergy tablets during pregnancy. They said most of them say not to take during pregnancy because they’ve not done lots of research on it and it’s more to cover their backs. But the doctor didn’t seem against it and prescribed me something stronger than what you can buy over the counter when I was really struggling. If a midwife has said it’s fine for a certain brand, I would follow that advice

I had a GP appointment about this last week - I have the worst hayfever! They told me that tablets weren’t safe but the nasal sprays are okay which help with the symptoms x
