Bellababy carrier

Has anyone had any experience with this carrier? I recently bought it and it seems OK but not sure if it's hip healthy for baby and if these hard seat things are recommended or not? Comparing it to a Beco Gemini that I recently tried at a sling library. Any thoughts welcome please! ❤️

You’ll be far far better off with a beco Gemini x

@Yasmin can I ask why? I ordered both off Amazon and I can't seem to pick between them. Is this not as good for baby? x

FYI my baby is nosy and only really wants to be world facing if that makes a difference

I had a very similar one which I'd purchased before baby was born and before I knew anything about baby wearing and I got rid of it as soon as I went to my first sling meet and realised how unsafe it was!

Definitely haven't but need that for my little baby when they come out. Going to be my new hiking and photography buddy

@Sam they’re not very safe and the position isn’t very ergonomic for you or baby. We had a Gemini and it was great x

@Yasmin oh thank you for letting me know ! Wouldn't have known that at all :)

@Yasmin yeah I've got the Gemini too but I actually think I find this comfier on my back lol. So looking for the science behind why this isn't recommended!

@Rebecca do you know what makes it unsafe? I'm not doubting you, just genuinely want to know more lol

@Sam their knees should sit in an M shape which this doesn’t allow, it’ll be super uncomfy for baby as the position they’re forced to sit in isn’t natural. There are far more ergonomic carriers for you and baby. The Gemini allows baby to get into a nice deep seated M position and is more ergonomic for your back too. There’s a great Facebook group ‘baby wearing UK’ I’d highly recommend x

Thank you so much for sharing that info. I'm sold. Will be returning this one and keeping the Gemini. Thanks again ❤️x

@Sam yeah no worries! So one thing is that their hips can't properly be in the M position in this carrier which is dangerous for their hip development. The other safety issue is how well it's been tested. I can't speak on the specific brand of this one but mine was very similar "Bebe amour" I think it was, through amazon like the one in your pic. It looked like a legit brand but I found out at sling group that it was a Chinese knock off brand, made of cheap materials and would have been barely safety tested, if at all.

@Rebecca that's insane. Thanks so much for sharing ❤️

@Sam no problem! It’s scary that they are allowed to be sold. I was horrified when I found out about mine!

@Rebecca yeah and all I could find online were positive video reviews by social media influencers - figures. I've literally returned mine to Amazon today and will stick with the Gemini. Thank you so much for your help x

It's so easily done! If you're ever looking for a new/different one and can't get to a local sling group/library the Babywearing UK Facebook group is really helpful x
