Testing for causes of miscarriage?

I have had 2 miscarriages within a year, first baby had Edward’s syndrome and passed at 13 weeks. This pregnancy we had early NIPT test which showed low chance for any trisomy abnormalities but 12 week scan showed baby stopped growing at 8 weeks. I had a natural miscarriage so was unable to send pregnancy tissue for testing. Is there any checks I can get done to see what a possible cause could be for my losses? The hospital said they will not do any further investigations unless I have another miscarriage, I’m willing to go private just don’t know where to start.

I’ve had 3 losses now 2 chemical and 1 loss at 11 weeks. They still won’t do testing for me.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I had to wait until I had 3 miscarriages within a year or 5 in total.

After my 3rd miscarriage, when I fell pregnant again, I was put in contact with the EPU for early scans and prescribed progesterone. After my 4th miscarriage, it was the same again and I was prescribed progesterone & aspirin. After my 5th miscarriage, I was told I’d be referred to a recurring miscarriage clinic in London but I fell pregnant again 2-3 months after (with my current pregnancy) before I spoke with a gynaecologist and before the referral was booked/discussed with me so I’m assuming it’s been put on hold while I’m still pregnant I’m so sorry for your loss. I hate that we have to wait until we’ve had x amount of losses before were offered any actual help x

I would do a karotyping test on you and then if it comes back with any deletions then have husband test too. You also should to the typical work up for recurrent loss. Make sure to get tested for MTHFR, Factor-V, Clotting issues like Antiphospholipid syndrome. Hopefully if you ask they’ll know what to include. I just did this and it was negative and now I’m going to test karotyping and then I’ll check for “endometritis” which is a bacteria imbalance in the uterus and requires a biopsy. Hope this helps!!

I am very sorry to hear this. Some trusts do do testing - if you can financially afford it I would definitely look at going private where you can get tests quickly and treatment if needed. I am in debt with going private but I’m hoping it will be we worth it as have a plan of having to take progesterone and aspirin and steroids when I become pregnant again, as well as blood thinning injections. You can also get testing packs from various companies such as medichecks, onedaytests, lolahealth, Thriva. Wishing you all the best xxxxx if you have a fertility clinic near you who can do tests - I’d opt for that. Otherwise planyourbaby may be able to help - I think you can still have a free video call with one of their nurses to ask questions / what they offer. They have been very good with me. Xx
